Study Shows How Chronic Pain Affects Your Sleep
Study Shows How Chronic Pain Affects Your Sleep – Chances are if you have chronic pain you know pain affects your sleep, but did you know how it impacts your overall health and what is happening to your body when chronic pain is forcing you to lose sleep? Here are some great images and an awesome study done by Amerisleep.com to help explain it.
First, people with good health sleep better, that seems like a no brainer. Many of us chronic pain sufferers can toss and turn all night long resulting in a daily battle of trying to stay awake during the day, and there is not enough coffee in the world to help us. Sleep helps our brains function, supports growth and development, and keeps our immune systems, hearts, and kidneys working well. Without it we face many negative side effects like; risk of obesity and stress, just to name a couple.
As you may know chronic pain causes people to be stressed, both physically and mentally, which can highly affect their sleep and health. Study shows: 48% of people reporting severe pain also reported severe stress.
When living in chronic pain our overall quality of sleep is directly impacted, the days of sleeping soundly seem to be over. I personally seem to wake up 4 to 5 times a night because of my pain and then I take forever to fall back asleep, but I’m not alone. Study shows: only about 1 out of 5 people report sleeping well when suffering from chronic pain.
Most of you are aware that chronic pain affects every aspect of our daily lives; things like our mood, daily activities, enjoyment of life, relationships, and even work or school. Study shows: Over 50% of people reporting chronic pain say it interferes with their enjoyment of life.
So what can we do about it, is there a way to sleep better for us chronic pain patients? What have you found helpful? Please leave us a comment in the section below.
