Unforgettable Mother’s Day Gifts
That Your Mother Will Actually Use
Unforgettable Mother’s Day Gifts – Here it is, Mother’s Day. Retailers are stocking up on all kinds of gifts for you to purchase for your mother. Nursery’s are over flowing with beautiful plants and flowers. Restaurants are running ads for Mother’s Day Buffet deals. Everything to budget friendly gifts to completely over the top and over priced, totally useless gifts. Shouldn’t you get your mother, wife, or girlfriend something she can actually use? Does she really want another potted plant or flower that needs to be planted or it will die? Another bath set in a fragrance or product line she has never used… let alone knows what it is? Box of chocolates? Bouquet of flowers? A nice meal out? So many options, how does one decide?
I recommend really considering the person you are shopping for. Some people don’t really take Mother’s Day seriously, or even consider it a holiday. It’s the ONE day a year that women are honored for all of the things they do for their families and loved ones 365 days a year. One day, that’s it. Let’s make it count! A small gift that has been carefully thought out is much more cherished than a last-minute grab of what ever is left on the shelf at the local Super WalMart. Something personal, something that reflects the personality or interests of the recipient will be the most appreciated and cherished. This is not really that complicated to pull off.
Does the woman you’re shopping for suffer from a Chronic Illness? Perhaps Chronic Pain? Is her activity limited? She cannot do the things she used to do? Personalize the gift. The options are truly amazing these days. Not feeling adventurous? How about a gift card to a nice salon or day spa for a mani/pedi duo? Some of these places have combo specials and you can get that special woman a mini spa day deluxe treatment. Mani/pedi, facial, massage, body wrap with a mini make over at the end. Haircut and style, make-up included. Depends on where you go and how much money you feel like spending. Remember, this is the woman who raised you or is raising your children. Quit being a flint!
Mother’s Day is often celebrated by a meal out at a nice restaurant. The problem with that is the crowds, the waits and often bad service because restaurants are so busy. Timing is everything, and so are reservations. Make them in advance whenever possible. Or better yet, cook for her. Have a nice meal at home and let her sit this one out. You do the prep work, cooking and clean up. Get the family involved. Cater to her on this day. Have some fun with it. If the weather permits, a picnic or BBQ is always nice. Kids can run around outside and Mom can sit under a nice shady tree with her feet up and take a much-needed nap.
If you want to do something that will really knock her socks off, try a monthly gift club type thing. This is where it gets fun. Is she a Oneophilia? Oenophiles are also known as aficionados or connoisseurs. There are endless types of memberships to choose from. Anywhere from 3 months to 12 months, with any combination of wines and other goodies that can be shipped right to her front door. How awesome is that?
Then there is another on of my favorites, Fruit of the month. A special selection of fruits, right to the front door for however long you choose. I really like Harry & David. Fruit, wines, sweets, you name it. These guys are where it’s at. Over the top deliciousness delivered right to your front door. It doesn’t get any better than this. Guaranteed to make anyone smile.
A new one that I have been seeing lately is a foreign food of the month club. Each month or whatever terms you select, items from other countries are sent to your door. I think this is a great way to bring the world to your doorstep. It’s a really wonderful way to experience the foods of different cultures. Then there are Candy Clubs, Coffee Clubs, Sweet Treat Clubs, Cheese Clubs. OooooH! Did someone say cheese? Mouth has caught my eye big time. I have decided I want one of everything. Unfortunately my waistline says NOPE! There truly is something for everyone. Organic, Health foods, Junk Food, Fair Market and the list goes on. The best part is that it’s affordable, memorable and something that can be shared.
Let’s not forget the pampering. Cosmetic Clubs are gaining back lost popularity also. They can be a lot of fun. Cosmetics, or should I say really good, quality cosmetics are not cheap. So it’s nice to be able to try them before we buy them and then suffer buyers regret. With a Club you can try new products at home and decide whether you like them or not. You are exposed to things you had no idea that existed. And trust me when I say, this will score you HUGE points. To indulge one’s cosmetic habit could very well make you a hero!!! Just saying….
They even have Gardening Clubs! I know some women would flip to have a membership to a Gardening of the month club. One of those women would be me! I love digging in the dirt. How fun would this be? What kinds of things would they be sending on a monthly basis? Some serious fun in box is what!
Remember these are just recommendations. You know that special woman in your life better than anyone else does. A personalized gift really does mean the most. You can give a gift that will cost you nothing but your time. These can truly be the most precious gifts ever given. How about cleaning her house? And I mean really cleaning. Floors, windows, ceilings, those crazy Spring Cleanings she used to do, but just doesn’t have the strength or energy to do anymore. Perhaps some serious yard work. Go pull those weeds, trim back the hedges, mow the lawn. Instead of just giving her a potted plant or flowers that need to be planted, do it for her. These are the things that touch the heart the most. Having a Chronic Illness or suffering from Chronic Pain takes a lot of things away from people. Things they don’t talk about or complain about. The everyday things we used to do and can’t anymore are just tossed into the pile of things lost along the way. Giving of yourself feels really good too.
Most of all, enjoy the day. Enjoy your time together. Don’t set your expectations too high. I think we are most guilty of feeling like we have to keep up with whatever is being shoved down our throats on a daily basis by advertising, marketing and media saturation. Stop trying to keep up! I make it a point to avoid commercials these days. They are so over the top, fake and self-esteem crushing. I can also tell you as a mother myself, I don’t expect perfection. I just want to see my children’s faces and feel their arms around me as often as possible. As time goes on, these moments are fewer and fewer. They are grown up and have their own lives now. You may have drove us totally bonkers as youngsters, but the bottom line is that, we miss you, a lot.
